Safeguarding

Bringing up the issue of the safety of a child, young person or vulnerable adult is excruciatingly sensitive for all concerned.

If you have any questions re the above, please contact Dominik Opaliński, who is noted in The Legal 500 as being “in constant demand in relation to issues pertaining to safeguarding issues and has a substantial case-load dealing with child welfare matters.”

Bringing up the issue of the safety of a child, young person or vulnerable adult is excruciatingly sensitive for all concerned.

No one wants to have a conversation about a child in a situation in which they are being harmfully exploited.

Yet if this is the case, if a young person or vulnerable adult we know is at risk, then it is paramount that we don’t shirk the emotional obstacle of talking about it. Necessary measures that might need to be discussed to protect the health, well-being and human rights of that endangered individual should never be anything less than a top priority. A frank talk about what is happening is often the only way to ensure they live free from abuse and neglect, to remove any possibility of them suffering so much for the remainder of their lives.

If you find yourself in this unbearable position, it is crucial that you outline the basic facts in such a way that those with influence to change things can recognise the situation and take action. You need to support those who need to be extricated from the harmful environment too, by talking to them sensitively. A conversation which no one, however experienced, finds easy. But the only way of ensuring the protection of a vulnerable person who deserves so much more.
